DESCRIPTION:Kim Martin and Kimberly Schooley of the Durango Dementia Coalition will speak about living well with dementia from the perspective of someone living with dementia and a care partner. Visitors welcome. Free. Kim Martin has had an extensive teaching career and as a paralegal. She taught Asian History\, Comparative Cultures\, and Composition at Fort Lewis College. Kim was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and mild cognitive impairment in July of 2022. She writes a regular column in the Durango Herald about her journey\, which has won two state-wide journalism awards\, and she has been an integral part of creating the Durango Dementia Coalition. Kimberly Schooley has been an attorney\, teacher and full-time care partner for her husband\, Dr. Alan Schooley\, a pediatrician who was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease in November of 2020 at the age of 51 and then later with Posterior Cortical Atrophy. Alan passed away on New Year’s Eve in 2024. Kimberly is the Vice President of the Durango Dementia Coalition.
