SUMMARY:San Juan Symphony Presents: The Planets & Beyond
DESCRIPTION:With Maestro Thomas Heuser\, Durango Women's Choir\, and SJS Chamber Singers. Fasten your seatbelts for a concert of epic proportions! The Planets takes audiences on a grand tour of the solar system and Gustav Holst’s interpretation of each astrological character\, from Jolly Jupiter and Mars the Warrior to the sublime and abstract Neptune. Paired with Holst are the characters of three Greek women of legend as detailed by French composer Mél Bonis in a set of early 20th century orchestral showpieces. American composer John Adams slings the orchestra into high gear with his brilliant Short Ride in a Fast Machine. Come early to hear Maestro Heuser delve deeper into the music with his pre-concert talk at 6:30 PM. Maestro Heuser will also be featured at our Musically Speaking event held at the Powerhouse on Wednesday\, September 30th at 6:00 PM. This hour long lecture will put the music and composers in context so that the Saturday performance is even more meaningful.
