SW Solar Barn Raising Program: Solar Installation Volunteer Work Party
ABOUT THE PROGRAM Providing Solar Power to Low-Income Residents The Southwest Solar Barn Raising Program is providing 62 low-income families, veterans, persons with disabilities and hard-working single mothers at Southwest Horizon Ranch and Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County the ability to harness the sun. This program is designed to offset the rising cost of utility bills, create and educate a volunteer work force and reduce the impact of carbon emissions in our regional environment. The project at Southwest Horizon Ranch, a low-income, rental housing development owned by Housing Solutions for Southwest Colorado, will be receiving a 16.7 kW ground-mounted solar system that will provide power for the subdivision’s water system, and ultimately redirect utility savings back into the ranch for upgrades and improvements, impacting the 61 households.
