It is a tradition for the VFW to place US Flags at the graves of all the veterans interred at La Plata County Cemeteries. If you wish to participate in the placement of these flags meet at the Legion Memorial. Bring a large Phillips Screwdriver.

VFW Post 4031 will hold an Open House on Memorial Day following the ceremonies at various locations in Durango. All are welcome. Come to thank veterans for their service to this nation. Food will be served.

Just before sunset, an expert from the Durango Astronomical Society will lead discussions on what we will be seeing that evening, providing informative backstories and fascinating fun facts about the night sky we see everyday. Each summer month will have slightly different focuses depending on that month's night sky. All discussions will end with open telescope viewings and Q&A sessions. Don't miss out on these memorable experiences! June 7th at 8:00 pm - Intro to Astronomy Equipment and the Night Sky; The focus will be on the moon, planets, basic constellations, and the lesser known Pinwheel Galaxy, the mystery of M102, the Hercules cluster, the Veil Nebula and more!

Join SJMA and the Durango Astronomical Society for the summer star party series located, for the first time, at SJMA's Durango Nature Center! All are welcome, amateur astronomers and enthusiasts alike, for a family friendly event discussing and observing our night skies - the moon, planets, star clusters, galaxies, and nebulas. Just before sunset, an expert from the Durango Astronomical Society will lead discussions on what we will be seeing that evening, providing informative backstories and fascinating fun facts about the night sky we see everyday. Each summer month will have slightly different focuses depending on that month's night sky. All discussions will end with open telescope viewings and Q&A sessions. Don't miss out on these memorable experiences! August 9th at 7:30 pm - Exploring the Milky Way; The focus will be on the moon, planets, as well as the Wild Duck cluster, the Swan Nebula and more!

Get outside and stretch your legs! The Durango Adult Education Center is holding its third annual 5k/10k Fun Run fundraiser on August 17th at Santa Rita Park. This race isn't all about speed: shave seconds off your time by completing a high-school level quiz! Prizes will be awarded. Open to all ages and kids 14 and under run for free! Every Labor Day weekend, the Four Corners Folk Festival takes place amongst the Ponderosa pines on beautiful Reservoir Hill Park in downtown Pagosa Springs. This August 30th-September 1st will mark our 28th annual festival.    Thousands of people of all ages will once again converge August 30th - September 1st, 2024 from all around the country for three days of live performances, workshops, a children's activities, arts and craft vendors, great food from a variety of wonderful vendors, and beverages from our friends at Breckenridge Brewing, Talbott's Cidery, and Riff Raff Brewing.   The Four Corners Folk Festival is a family-friendly event, offering free admission to children 12 and under (accompanied by an adult), as well as a free children's program with arts and crafts, family entertainment, special musical performances and workshops?for aspiring young musicians and their families.    Full lineup, tickets, and additional information visit website!

Come to the Downtown Durango Balloon Glow (weather permitting).   Hot air balloons will light up the sky in Downtown Durango at the balloon glow in the 500 block of Main in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot.   Arrive around 6 pm to see the balloons inflate. The glow starts at approximately 6:30 pm, weather permitting. Visitors will be able to be up close to see the balloon pilots in action. Kids will love seeing all the colorful balloons! The balloons will come down around 7:30 pm, weather permitting. Schedule subject to change.   Make sure you bring your camera for the glowing balloons. There will also be "candlesticks" which are the balloon basket and burners, without the balloon. Pilots will let kids get in the basket and pull the burner, it's really cool!   Come earlier or stay after to enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants near the event: T's Smokehouse and Grill, East by Southwest, Gazpacho's New Mexican Restaurant, Nini's Taqueria, Sizzling Siam, Cuckoos', or The Roost.    The event is weather dependent, so cross your figures for a storm and wind-free evening.   Proudly sponsored by the Durango Business Improvement District

The little ghost and goblins fill the streets of Downtown Durango on October 31 for the Children's Halloween Event. This is a fun and safe option for kids to trick or treat in costume at participating merchants in Downtown Durango. This event is for children 10 and under, accompanied by an adult, and in costume. The Event will be from 4-6pm in Downtown Durango.

This annual family friendly event takes place the day after Thanksgiving.    Come join us as we light our community Christmas Tree in Buckley Park. Santa will be there to help us count down the lighting of the tree, sing Christmas Carols and take photos. We will have hot chocolate and cookies for all to enjoy while supplies last.
