Aikido Starter Session
Durango Shin Budo Kai Aikido
Mondays | 6:15 | 12 Sessions: Jan 20 - Apr 7 Are you looking for a martial art that emphasizes harmony, balance, and self-improvement? Aikido offers more than just physical training—it cultivates mindfulness, confidence, and a sense of community.
What is Aikido? Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that focuses on blending with your opponent's movements to resolve conflict or attacks without injecting additional violence. It teaches you to redirect energy rather than confront force with force, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
In this introductory Aikido course, participants (ages 18+) will come away with the intrinsic skills at the heart of Aikido, Japan's youngest martial art. Registration for the full series covers all 24 classes, private lessons, and a rockin' Aikido shirt. Upon completion, participants will be knocking on the doors of their first belt rank (kyu) in a martial art!
Students embarking on this extended journey will attend a dedicated beginner's class on Mondays, 6:15-8:15pm. They will also choose a second regularly scheduled weekly class to supplement their training (cost included in course registration). We understand life, travel, and illness can disrupt one's commitment to an extended learning series, which is why private intensives with our masterful Senseis are also available and included with your registration.
Beginner classes can be booked individually as "drop-ins," but we do recommend booking the series to save over 50% on all 24 classes. For those wishing to join the starter session at any point after the January 20th kickoff class, please email info@durangoaikido.com to arrange your start date and any make-up sessions.
A training gi is not required, but recommended. Participants may also wear comfortable, loose-fitting workout clothes. (Long or three-quarter sleeves are advised over tank tops and sweat pants are recommended over shorts.) Please do not wear jewelry to class; it can cause injury to yourself or others. Bring a water bottle.
