October Green Drinks will be hosted by Bear Smart Durango and San Juan Mountains Association.

San Juan Mountains Association is a grassroots organization whose members share values and passion for our public lands and cultural treasures. SJMA promotes responsible care of natural and cultural resources through education and hands-on involvement that inspires respect and reverence for our lands. SJMA was created in 1988 to assist the San Juan National Forest in providing education and interpretation of public lands in Southwest Colorado. SJMA has a participating agreement with the San Juan National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management Tres Rios Field Office to develop educational programs, publications and volunteer projects, as well as provide interpretive services.

Bear Smart Durango educates residents on how to coexist with black bears, advocates for meaningful policy changes to reduce human and bear conflict and works to reduce human-provided foods in our area. Their efforts are aimed not only at preserving the welfare of bears, but creating a safer environment for community members who live or recreate in bear habitat. They have worked since 2003 reducing human-bear conflict in the greater Durango area, by addressing the root causes of conflict: eliminating access to human foods that attract and create "problem” bears in the first place.
