Music in the Mountains collaborates with Fort Lewis College, Katzin Music, and Durango High School students to host the special free event that allows students to try out various brass, string, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Students and their parents hear a short demonstration of the instruments, and then receive private mini-lessons on each instrument. The event encourages students to select an instrument they would like to play in sixth grade ensembles, an important decision for their musical development.
