The Museum at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will premier two new exhibit galleries with a public reception from 4:00-6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
"The Ben Nighthorse Campbell: Colorado’s Renaissance Man" exhibit will feature some of Campbell’s furniture and memorabilia from his U.S. Senate office that he donated to the Center of Southwest Studies in 2004. This will be an ongoing exhibit with a changing emphasis every year. This year features some of Campbell’s stunning jewelry.
Also opening is "Treasures of the Southwest", featuring Southwest textiles from The Durango Collection®, the Bill and Sue Hensler collection of Native American art, historical photographs from the Pennington Studio collection, pottery, sculpture and other works from the Center’s museum and archives collections.
For the first time in its history the Center is dedicating a portion of its museum gallery space to these permanent collections. In addition to featuring the Center’s collections through interpretive exhibits, it also develops and hosts travelling exhibitions.
The public reception will offer appetizers and a cash bar. At 6:00 pm, a laser light show from Christopher Short will cap off the evening’s festivities.
