This course will introduce students to the Ruby programming language. Ruby is a very mature open source, interpreted, object-oriented language created by Yukihiro Matsumoto. Ruby is a very popular language largely due to the incredible success of the web application programming framework: Ruby on Rails. Of course to learn web application programming with Ruby on Rails … you must first learn Ruby itself. Ruby is fantastic first programming language and is often taught in college settings as an introductory programming course in Computer Science.

This course is designated as Learning Level 0 (LL0) and is appropriate for all levels of experience computer users and nothing is expected other than knowledge and experience with basic personal computing. The course is geared toward people with little or no experience programming. Touch typing skills are very beneficial as much of the course the student will be creating small programs by typing into an editor.

CAT will provide hardware for the student to use during the course.

Summary
At the end of the 2 week session, the student will have essential knowledge about the core language syntax and features and can explore it independently. There is an abundance of internet resources available to expand and enhance the initial seeding of knowledge. There will also be a Learning Level 1 offered that will provide additional depth of knowledge about the language and also a Ruby on Rails web programming course.
