Sex is not always good, but it’s always revealing! Whether it’s fantastic, boring, strange, or predictable, sex is one of the most powerful unions and sensations we experience, and it shouldn’t be skipped or avoided in writing. On the other hand, a sex scene shouldn’t be included unless it serves a purpose, which is to illustrate the characters and the larger themes of the work. We’re not talking about porn, and we’re not talking about hallmarky stuff-we’re talking about the real stuff. My guess is that your writing project (whether memoir, fiction, or essay) will contain the possibility for intimate scenes, and now is the time to write them! To that end, this classy class will explore how to direct an honest gaze at this most fascinating activity and write sex scenes well.
Class is limited to 15.
Come to one or both of the classes and stay for the reading! Laura Pritchett will be reading from her new novel (which is quite sexy, but not a romance novel!) The Blue Hour at Maria’s at 5 pm on July 16. She’ll also be reading from her nonfiction book, Great Colorado Bear Stories. We invite you to make a day of writing and reading about love, nature, bears, and our Colorado.
