Just weeks ago, a first-time-ever collaboration of local non-profits in Durango was awarded a grant from USDA to support the launch of the “Durango Regional Food Recovery Hub (HUB)” who’s purpose is to increase access to locally-produced agricultural products and develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets. Their hope is to expand the reach of existing food recovery and gleaning programs, establish new programs, and to simply get more food to more people and less food to bears.

Darrin Parmenter, from the La Plata County Extension Office, will present the vision behind the grant, the impacts of this innovative new program and how partners are working together to build on volunteer efforts to expand harvesting and distribution.
