DESCRIPTION
The Ignacio Community Library and the Friends of ICL are sponsoring an art contest in conjunction with a fund raiser to be held at the library Saturday, June 9. The theme of the event is Smokey The Cowhorse by Will James, A Celebration of the West. The book Smokey, won the Caldecotte Award of children’s literature in 1927/ There were three movies made from the book. The second movie will be shown at the Ignacio Library Thursday, June 7 with a short talk describing Will James’ life, writing, and art, given by Tom James – no relation but an ardent admirer. Will James illustrated his own books with pen and ink drawings.

The Friends of ICL is calling for pen and ink drawings, the winner of which will be printed on t-shirts to be sold as a fundraiser during the event. The art must be the artists own work, no tracings or copies. Subject should be about the west, horses, cows, cow dogs, cowboys, cowgirls, or cowboy paraphernalia.

There are three age groups: 12 years and younger, 12 – 15 years old, and 16 and older.

Drawings must be drawn on an 11”x14” white paper with a black fine point Sharpie ink pen. Do not use a finer line pen because fine lines do not transfer to the shirt fabric.

Entries will be accepted Friday, April 20, and Friday, April 27 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM in the multipurpose room at ICL. No submissions will be accepted after Friday, April 27.
