Survivors of domestic violence and families and individuals experiencing homelessness have to take thousands of steps to recover hope and regain self-sufficiency; many difficult mountains to climb. On July 30th, we will be climbing a 14er on their behalf, to raise support for the shelter programs essential to their recovery, and to honor their incredible determination and effort. Event Goal: To raise $14,048 (the height of Handies Peak) for the Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter WHAT: 2nd Annual Climb a 14er Event to benefit the Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter WHO: Experienced hikers and/or amateur hikers who have considered achieving a 14er climb. Supporters who wish to give in support of the climb of a friend, colleague or family member. WHEN: Saturday July 30th, 2011 - Hike begins 7:30 a.m. WHERE: Handies Peak - a 3-5 hour moderate hike beginning from American Basin base camp. Many supporters will choose to camp in the area.
