To a Native American artist, the prestige of winning a ribbon at tribal art shows and being recognized for your work is one of the highest honors you can receive.
For the Spring Gallery Walk, Toh-Atin Gallery will feature a collection of works that have won top honors at the Gallup Ceremonial, the Navajo Nation Fair, The New Mexico State Fair, the Arizona State Fair and the Santa Fe Indian Market.
Some of these ribbons were awarded as long as 40 years ago and many come from this year's Gallup Ceremonial. It is an outstanding selection of award winning work.
In addition, we will be showing a selection of paintings by Stanton Englehart (1931-2009), one of Durango's most revered and respected artists. The former dean of the Art Department at Fort Lewis College, Englehart captured the beauty and nuances of our Southwest landscape and brought it to life in a powerful and spiritual manner.
Many of these paintings have been in storage and will be shown for the first time.
