The highly skilled and dedicated Chamber Singers choir will tackle a variety of works by emerging American composers, conducted by Elizabeth Crawford and presented as part of the San Juan Symphony's new Beyond the Concert Hall programming.
"We are embarking on New Horizons in our 38th Season," says Thomas Heuser, Music Director of the San Juan Symphony. "We are thrilled and honored to welcome the Chamber Singers into the Symphony family, and for their opening concert on October 29th, our friend Elizabeth has crafted a beautiful program filled with distinct American voices and a huge range of emotions."
All of the composers on the program are still alive today, and some are in their early 40s. That presents quite the contrast to some Classical composers who flourished over 200 years ago. The Chamber Singers have the flexibility to thrive in new music, folk music, religious songs, and popular music alike -- a testament to their serious commitment to performing choral works at the highest standard. Solo voices from within the choir will be featured in the October concert, along with a select group of area musicians, including collaborative pianist Christi Livingston.
General admission tickets are available now at durangoconcerts.com for $5 and $24. Tickets will also be available at the door on the afternoon of the performance. The exclusive "Young Americans" event will be presented on Sunday, October 29th, at 3:00 p.m. in the lovely acoustics of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Durango, with an audience reception to follow.
