Kick off another season of Great Garden programming!
Understanding the micro processes in soils and their interaction with soil biology - microbes and roots and their associated exudates - will lead to an enhanced appreciation for how small scale improvements in soil quality will help the plants in your garden grow better. We live in a region where soils and microclimates vary across a continuum from sub-alpine to semi-desert, from riparian to montane, from deep and silty-loams to shallow and sands. Gaining a better understanding of the micro-processes within your garden soils will, I think make you better prepared to become a master gardener, if only of your own garden domain!
