Join us for a series of Leadership Workshops, presented by DAHRM: Durango Area Human Resource Managers. The first workshop on Mastering Social Styles and Communication Techniques will be taught by Karen Thompson at the Center for Innovation (second floor of the Main Mall).
Workshop Description:
Some people are simply easier for us to work with than others…but we cannot always choose the people we work and interact with. Through a model of behavior, called Social Styles, this presentation will introduce participants to four distinct behavioral styles: Amiable, Analytical, Driver and Expressive. By exploring and understanding the strengths and preferences of each style, participants can learn to appreciate and value what each style contributes to the workplace and then learn strategies for managing and adapting their own behaviors in order to be more successful during interactions with different styles. Many examples of work "conflicts" stem from misunderstanding and misinterpretations of people's behaviors when they are different from our own. There are many stories of people's personal and business lives being changed for the better having learned the information contained in Social Styles.
Karen moved to Durango from Washington, DC in 2001, where Karen had a professional training, development and facilitation company for over 25 years. She continued her facilitation/training in Durango working with several not-for-profits and businesses, including healthcare organizations and financial institutions. One of her favorite topics to present and teach is Social Styles. In addition, she has served on the Board of the Durango Art Center and the Community Foundation and has held several positions on the Boards and Committees of Leadership La Plata. While mostly retired, Karen still enjoys engaging with the community in a variety of capacities. She enjoys traveling, hiking, reading and gardening. She has a genuine interest in and commitment to the businesses and organizations of La Plata County. She loves living in Durango and enjoying all that La Plata County and the surrounding areas have to offer.
Lunch will be provided for attendees.
