World Champion Title boxing match "Legends on the Animas" Coming to Durango!
For the first time since 1915, professional boxing is coming back to Durango! In true Durango fashion, it is coming back with STYLE! Saturday, October 12th, Andrew "Hurricane" Hernandez will battle Jeremy "The Boxing Barber" Ramos for the vacant LBF Super Middleweight World Championship title!
"We are so excited to introduce these legends of boxing to our community, give our guests a full day of high-level entertainment, and bring a brand new industry to Durango," said Katy Kopec, event
promoter and founder of The Good Fight Boxing Gym in downtown Durango.
In what is sure to draw sports fans and curious onlookers from across the Four Corners Region and beyond, "Legends on the Animas" will also feature co-main event Aaron Pryor Jr and amateur boxing bouts between local and visiting athletes. Our town will be graced by former heavyweight Champion, James "Bonecrusher" Smith, LBF legend and Muhammed Ali's bodyguard, Mike Cooley, and Mike "Baby Jack" Dempsey, descendant of the famous boxer Jack Dempsey who's famed 1915 boxing match in Durango is memorialized on the wall mural outside El Rancho. If that weren't enough star power, we will also welcome BUTTERBEAN who will be receiving the Presidential Lifetime Achievement award in our ring! The award will be presented by none other than Khalila Ali, former wife of the great Muhammad Ali.
The Good Fight is leading this grassroots effort to bring something truly special to Durango. "We are calling on our local business neighbors and non-profits to come together to bring the DURANGO flavor and reap not only short-term, but long-reaching benefits," said Kopec. Contact Katy to be part of Four Corners history as boxing takes center stage in the Fred W Klatt arena at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center.
