DESCRIPTION
The Gallery at Fort Lewis College is excited to welcome Kate Aitchison and her exhibition An Imagined Almanac: A Future for the Colorado Plateau. Aitchison's adventurous lifestyle leads her throughout the Colorado Plateau, searching for invasive plant species to turn into handmade paper, floating along in her wooden drift boat that is both woodblock print and functional form. Once the paper is made, she uses a monotype process to create imagery from the landscapes themselves. Landforms intertwine with the materiality of the paper, creating images that speak to the inevitability of human impacts in visible and invisible ways on our environment. Along with Aitchison's vibrant landscape-inspired prints, the exhibition will include a 15-foot long hand-crafted boat created from carved wood blocks that Kate has taken on several river trips.
