Meet Sarah Platt Decker

Fri, September 26, 2025
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

DESCRIPTION
Join us for an evening with Chautauqua Speaker Gail Beaton who will give a presentation and answer questions as Colorado suffragist Sarah Platt Decker. Mrs. Decker was responsible for many of the legal reforms affecting women and children in this state, and became widely known for her work in this field, later being the first woman appointed to the Civil Service Commission of Colorado. She was the president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, and the only woman invited by President Theodore Roosevelt to the Governors’ Conference on the Conservation of Natural Resources. She was being touted as a possible candidate for the United States Senate when she suddenly passed away in 1912. Today she is remembered through the local chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. There is no charge for this event.
