Every year after Halloween, this special waste collections event provides a sustainable option for jack-o-lanterns and leaf disposal. Pumpkins, gourds, and fruit are attractants for bears and other wildlife. What's more, when organic material is sent to the landfill it breaks down into methane, a potent greenhouse gas. A much less scary, and much better option is to use these materials to feed animals or to create compost that nourishes farmers' soils!event.

Drop off will be closed 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM each day while the collections trailer is emptied. Cars arriving before 12:30 PM will have to wait until the trailer returns.

Rules & Guidelines: Please make sure all items are fit for animal consumption and/or composting!
NO candle wax, paint, ink, plastic decorations, etc.!
NO pesticides, fungicides, or pet waste!
Leaves must be bagged in paper bags only (bags available at Kroegers Ace Hardware, Home Depot, City Market, Walmart). No plastic or plastic-lined bags!
Apples and other fruit accepted, if fit for animal consumption.
Proof of City of Durango residency not required
