Stories Over Stigma is a project designed to deepen understanding of substance use and the many personal, social, and systemic factors that contribute to it. The project explores how stigma affects individuals who use substances, and their ability to access support and services. It also provides practical resources and tools to help community members, professionals, and caregivers care for their own well-being while supporting individuals who use substances.
Through this project, participants will hear a powerful personal story of recovery that highlights the lived experience of substance use and the journey toward change. The stories help humanize the issue and challenge common misconceptions.
The purpose of this event is to increase knowledge, encourage critical reflection on personal stigma, and promote more compassionate, informed perspectives on substance use. By reframing how we think and talk about substance use, this project aims to foster empathy, reduce harm, strengthen community connections, and validate complex emotions that often arise when working with or supporting people who use substances.
