The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will donate all proceeds from the Friday, November 18, 2011 6:50 pm Polar Express train to Bruce Anderson's medical fund. Anderson, a local radio personality, community volunteer and good friend of the railroad, suffered a massive stroke on September 21, 2011. Bruce has been involved with many community organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the local school board, LPC Humane Society, United Way, Snowdown and of course was an Ambassador for the D&SNG as well as a volunteer on almost every D&SNG Bitterroot Mine claimPhotographer's Special Train. Many mornings you could find Bruce on the platform waving off the passenger trains before he grabbed his pole to go fishing. Bruce also took pride in being caretaker of the cabins at the Bitterroot Mine claim, only accessible by rail.
While this trip is a fundraiser, it will be the exact same experience as the regular Polar Express trips. Once onboard the Polar Express, hot cocoa and treats are served and passengers read along with the holiday children’s classic book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg. Santa and his helpers greet the train at the “North Pole,†and then board the train, where each child is given the gift of a sleigh bell. Chefs aboard each car lead the passengers in singing Christmas carols on the ride back to Durango.
Please let's fill this train! If you can't or don't want to ride it yourself, buy tickets for your friends, neighbors, strangers, Volunteers of America, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, adopters from animal shelters...any of Bruce's causes!
