DESCRIPTION
Want to be the most interesting guest at your Thanksgiving dinner? Come learn all about the cultural revival in Massachusetts for the Wampanoag. Their ancestors saved the Pilgrims from starvation and lived to regret it. Spurred on by celebrated native linguist Jane Little Doe Baird, the Wampanoag of Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard are reviving their language more than a century after the last native speaker died. Award winning film "We Still Live Here: As Nutayunean" screens for free in the Boiler Room Theater at the Durango Discovery Museum. Enter through main museum entrance and stay after the film for Q&A facilitated by FLC Native American and Indigenous Studies Prof. Majel Boxer.
